Sadness

E-mail this picture to a friende-mail to a friend

I am among the lucky ones who celebrated the holidays in a warm home, opened gifts, ate delicious food, and shared the time with my family... but apart from all the homeless and poor people I usually show on my photos, there is a group of people we rarely think about: the immigrants. There are so many people who come to our countries looking for better ways of life, money to send home, opportunities; they work strenuous schedules and long hours, and their ideal and hope is just one... to see their family again, a family who was left thousands of miles away.

In times like this I ask you to please remember these people... their loneliness is many times so deep and loud that they just can't make it. For one day lets forget about all the problems the immigrants cause and just think about all the misery they go through to "just make it."

Unless you have lived in a third world or poor country, you can't come to understand how it feels to live on $5 a month.

It's nice and courageous to talk about them, Jo.
Indeed, one can't fully understand the pain unless you have to go through yourself.
By other ways, in totally different circumstances, in my life, I know what it means to only survive, rather than to live. The survival of the fittest is a fact of nature itself, but I also know that what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.
Have a nice 2006! Love and hugs. ***

I know some people call them 'overexposed' and in a way they are, but that doesn't mean that we have to let them live in complete isolation (socially and photographically). I really appreciate this picture and I know they do too...It's like, like someone said before, an enlightment of their worries... Don't know if it's true, but I follow the idea.

Strong again, dear Jo. Yes, we must open our minds and hearts on them, they must feel enormously homesick and lonely...Greetz, Jetty

We are indeed lucky ones, and very often we forget ...
And your way of photography shows us very often the real world!
Thx for sharing this with us!
Best wishes to you Jo, and your family and friends!
